History

A unit of the National Service Scheme of M.G. University was inaugurated in the College in 1969. It aims at the development of personality through social service. With this objective it has adopted the motto : Not me but Thou. Prof. Scaria Zacharia served as the first Programme Officer. The organization annually conducts mini camps (3 days), Ten Day Special Camps during Onam Holidays, Literary Programmes and Legal Awareness Campaign. The organisation undertakes construction of homes for the poor and the needy, water shed management, waste land development programme, blood donation campaign etc.
It also adopts a model village every year. (the present adopted village Koonamthanam) and starts community development centres and libraries in backward areas: World Aids Day, Independence Day, Republic Day, NSS Day, Gandhi Jayanthi and World Enviornment Day are celebrated every year.
The NSS of St.Berchmans’ College was declared the best unit in the University in 1999 –
2000 and won the Moses Trophy. Prof. Joseph Tito served as Programme Co-ordinator of NSS, M.G. University.
